At least one child died in the suspected chlorine gas attack on the East Ghouta, the rebel-held suburb of Damascus targeted by Syrian forces in a relentless bombing campaign.  "Most of the patients have chlorine odor from their clothes and their skin," said a doctor identified as 'Yaqub' to the AFP news agency. "Many have dyspnea and skin and eye irritations," he said in English.  More than 500 people are dead from the bombing, and Russian President Vladimir Putin has finally ordered his Syrian allies to halt the bombing for the creation of a "humanitarian corridor" through which civilians can escape the horror.  But that falls significantly short of the UN Security Council resolution that Russia voted for which calls for a 30-day halt to the bombing.  UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned, "Eastern Ghouta cannot wait.  It's high time to stop this hell on Earth."

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is being criticized for putting his creepy hands all over a crying six-year old girl and telling her she can "die like a martyr".  The girl's parents apparently dressed he up like a soldier and took her to the rally to whip up support for Erdogan's invasion of Syria's Afrin Province, where Kurdish forces are concentrated.  He called for the sobbing child to be passed up to the stage, berated her for crying, kissed her, and said: "If she's martyred, they'll lay a flag on her!"  Because all six year olds just love being passed around like objects and have their faces touched by smelly old goats they've never met before, right?  Erdogan's behavior has been likened to "child abuse" and glorification of death.

Five people are dead in a shop explosion in Leicester, UK.  Five other people remain in hospital, one in a critical condition, and police fear there are some unaccounted for in the rubble.  Terrorism is for now ruled out, and the store front was being used for a Polish grocers.

WowCheck out the snow in Rome!  Doesn't happen very often.

The retiring head of counter-terrorism policing in the UK Mark Rowley is warning of rising far-right terrorism.  He says the Met has foiled at least four extreme right-wing plots, including a planned machete attack on a LGBT Pride parade.  "Islamist and right-wing extremism is reaching into our communities through sophisticated propaganda and subversive strategies creating and exploiting vulnerabilities that can ultimately lead to acts of violence and terrorism," he said in a speech before next month's retirement.

Victorian police Assistant Commissioner Brett Guerin has resigned in possibly the most humiliating disgrace because of the discovery of his social media pseudonym "Vernon Demerest".  He used the name to make many racist and sexist online comments showing an extremely unhealthy obsession with anal rape.  In fact, Fairfax Media investigated and found that many comments ended with a graphic anal rape reference, no matter the subject.  The loathsome depths to which the now-former head of the Professional Standards Command had plunged were initially discovered on Facebook last week but are now known to include many heinous comments on YouTube.  The Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission (IBAC) will now investigate further.

The orange clown Donald Trump actually said that he would have gone inside the Florida high school where a teenage gunman was murdering 17 students and teachers to confront the shooter - even without a gun.  Click on the photos for videos of Trump's steely courage in the face of danger:
Such mighty bravery
Auurgh! Help! Mommy!
And here's Trump valiantly feeding a doped-up bird on a safety chain:
One's an Eagle, the other is just chicken
Hey, nothing wrong with admitting you're scared.  It's a reasonable reaction.  But Trump made his moronic and laughable comments amid the debate about the local police response to the Valentine's Day mass shooting at the high school in Parkland.  It has emerged that as many as four Florida deputies failed to go inside to rescue students as shots rang out.  The debate has clogged social media, mostly because of online dipshytes beating their chests and professing to be Rambo.  Like Trump.

Director Kevin Smith survived what he called a "widowmaker" heart attack between two scheduled live shows near Hollywood.  "The Doctor who saved my life told me I had 100 percent blockage of my LAD artery (aka "the Widow-Maker")," Smith wrote on social media.  "If I hadn't canceled show 2 to go to the hospital, I would've died tonight.  But for now, I'm still above ground!"  Blockage of the LAD (left anterior descending artery) is considered the most serious because it handles the most blood.  The director of "Clerks" and "Jay and Silent Bob" hasn't exactly had the best dietary habits, but says after facing death he's looking at "lifestyle changes" - and that "maybe it's time to go Vegan".

Bollywood star Sridevi Kapoor died of accidental drowning after falling unconscious in a hotel bath, according to an autopsy report.  The 54-year old was on holiday in Dubai with her family when it happened.  With 300 film credits to her name, Sridevi was the highest-paid female actor if the 1980s and is considered Hindi cinema's first female megastar.
