Rescue divers in Thailand found all twelve boys and their football coach who went missing inside of a cave more than a week ago.  The divers even got video of the first contact, asking how many are still alive and getting the answer that all are.  The coach then asks how long they've been in there, and the divers reply, "Ten days."  Although it's the best possible news from the Tham Luang caves in Chiang Rai, in the country's north, the hardest past is yet to come.  They're obviously disoriented and weakened, and the divers will have to help them swim through the flooded passages to safety before even more rain falls on the site.  But the experienced Thai divers are augmented by Aussie and US divers and more from the international community.  Hmm, nations working together towards a common goal instead of fearing the outsiders, how about that.

Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO) won the Mexican presidential election with more than 53 percent of the vote, bouyed by his anti-corruption outsider campaign.  Before thousands who gathered in the capital city's Zocalo Square, AMLO spoke of solidarity and inclusion:  "I call on all Mexicans to reconciliation, and to put above their personal interests, however legitimate, the greater interest, the general interest," and, "The state will cease to be a committee at the service of a minority and will represent all Mexicans, rich and poor, those who live in the country and in the city, migrants, believers and nonbelievers, to people of all philosophies and sexual preferences."  A Leftist being compared to US Senator Bernie Sanders or UK Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, he's vowing a war on corruption which he tags as "the main cause of social and economic inequality".

German Chancellor Angela Merkel appears to have isolated her internal rival, Interior Minister Horst Seehofer of Bavaria, who is putting pressure on her to tighten immigration controls.  Seehofer's Christian Social Union (CSU) party is allied with Merkel's Christian Democrats (CDU); he threatened to quit the government, demanding a right to turn irregular migrants away at Bavaria's border unless Merkel persuaded the rest of the EU to restrict immigration.  However, most CSU officials have distanced themselves from Seehofer over his tirade, weakening his hand as he headed into private negotiations with Ms, Merkel on the contentious issue.

Days after the orange clown Donald Trump idiot complained that other nations were "laughing at" the United States (something he does pretty regularly), the bumbling moron actually began work on trade legislation called "The US Fair And Reciprocal Tariff Act".  That's right, it's the "US FART Act".  He wants to pull the US out of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and into FART.  The draft is a horror show of authoritarian garbage that would bypass the US Congress, numerous treaties, and international law, while establishing dictatorial powers to raise and lower tariffs at will in the tiny hands of an economic and financial defective who is already harming his country's farmers and manufacturing base.

Despite all of the cruelty of Trump's border policy or incompetence on trade and diplomacy, it should be noted that there is still an investigation into Russian influence over his 2016 presidential campaign.  And Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen has signaled that he might have already flipped on his former boss and is cooperating with the Feds.  In off camera comments caught by America's ABC News, Cohen said:  "My wife, my daughter and my son have my first loyalty and always will.  I put family and country first."  In response to Trump giving Cohen a cold shoulder while his legal bills mount, Cohen replied, "I will not be a punching bag as part of anyone's defense strategy.  I am not a villain of this story, and I will not allow others to try to depict me that way."  Wow!  That's a big turn around from last September, when he was "the guy who would take a bullet for (Trump)" and he would "never walk away".  Nah, sounds like he RAN.

More than 270,000 Syrian civlians have been displaced by the government's latest push into rebel-held territory.  Under the cover of Russian air support the government forces have advanced into Deraa and Quneitra provinces in the southwest, forcing civilians towards Jordan and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.  UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Raad Al Hussein has warned of a humanitarian catastrophe in Deraa and urged neighbouring countries to provide safe passage to those wishing to flee the violence.
