Good Morning Australia!! - Another completely avoidable massacre in the USA - The ugly American makes an ass of himself in Tokyo - When the rescue turns out worse than the initial problem - And more in your CareerSpot Global News Briefs:

Hey, remember the Columbine High School Massacre in the US?  Two troubled teens gathered up guns and homemade bombs and attacked their school in a Denver, Colorado suburb, killing 15 people in April, 1999.  After the two most recent mass shootings in the US, it's not even in the top ten gun massacres in modern American history anymore.  That's excluding historic mob actions against African Americans in the early 20th Century and atrocities against indigenous people in the 1800s.

So let's take a trip to Sutherland Springs, Texas, where 26-year old convicted domestic abuser, white male, and US Air Force reject named Devin Patrick Kelley had a row with his mother-in-law and took it out on her church, killing 26 including himself.  After Kelley used his AR-15 assault weapon to slaughter the people in the church and a couple outside, a local resident ran out with his own AR-15 and engaged Kelley, possibly wounding him.  The second gunman, now being touted by authorities and the corporate media as the mythological "good guy with a gun" - despite failing to prevent any bloodshed - flagged down a motorist and the two chased down Kelley until he shot and killed himself

Ultimately, Kelley didn't kill his mother-in-law, because she wasn't there.  He did kill her elderly mother.  Kelley's youngest victims were just 18 months and five years old.  The 14-year old daughter of the First Baptist church's pastor was killed as well, while her parents were out of town - they had to race back from religious events in other parts of the country.  Stunned people in the tiny town where everyone knows each other struggled to understand what has happened in their small community - despite the facts that Texas has mass shootings all the time, and they often occur in small towns just like theirs.  Not even two months ago, a different estranged husband killed eight people including his ex-wife at her football viewing party outside Dallas.  No one remembers.

And in the final insults, Texas Republican politicians like Senator Ted Cruz then pushed back against calls for increased gun control, feigning offense and claiming that now is not the time to "politicize" the issue.  And from thousands of miles away on his Asian tour in Tokyo, armchair psychiatrist and total moron Donald Trump declared that guns weren't the issue in Sutherland Springs, Texas - mental illness was the issue.  And he said this nonsense without the slightest hint of irony or acknowledgement that in February, Trump signed a bill that undid a regulation from Barack Obama's presidency that prevented 75,000 mentally ill people from buying guns.  At the time, the National Rifle Association and its cronies in congress hailed the idiotic decision.

Oh, and BTW - mental illness failed to result in mass murders in every single other country on earth that isn't at war; it happened only in the one with the guns and white male anger issues.  So.. there you have it.  Even more blood-drenched walls and floors and roads, and the people in charge of the USA refuse to learn a thing.

Anyway, did Trump do anything else really stupid in Tokyo?  He advised the Japanese military to shoot down North Korean missiles, despite the additional tension that would bring to an already volatile situation involving nuclear weapons; he told the Japanese to build cars in the US, seemingly oblivious to the fact they've been doing this for years; he refused to eat Japanese food while in Japan; at a photo op at a Koi Pond, he dumped an entire box onto the fish's heads when the entire point of the exercise is to show the sort of self-restraint this man-toddler doesn't have and feed them slowly.  Rest assured, the higher IQs were swimming in the pond.

Moving along..

Zimbabwean ruler Robert Mugabe sacked his vice president for supposed "disloyalty".  Emmerson Mnangagwa  had been Mugabe's ally for 40 years.  That clears the way for the 93-year old dictator's wife Grace Mugabe to succeed her husband as ruler, at least until the inevitable coup.

An investigating judge in Belgium freed former Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont and his four deputies, on the condition they do not try to leave the country as their cases are considered.  Puigdemont and the others are wanted in Spain for the failed Catalan independence debacle, and could wind up in jail for 30-years for trying to secede.  They're seeking political asylum in Belgium for the time being.

An attempt to rescue a tiny porpoise called a Vaquita in Mexico's Gulf of California went horribly wrong when the female of child-bearing age died in the attempt.  There are only 30 of the adorable creatures left, because their population was decimated by illegal gillnet fishing for a species of fish that itself is endangered because of over-fishing.  The International Committee for the Recovery of the Vaquita says "the risk of extinction due to mortality in fishing nets was much greater than the risk of rescue efforts".
