Police in the Netherlands are trying to unravel the mystery of a family found in a farmhouse basement, where they had been hiding for the better part of a decade awaiting the end of the world.  Apparently tired of waiting, a dirty, disheveled 28 year old man showed up in a local bar in the small farm village of Ruinerwold, ordered five beers, and proceeded to tell of the place he had just fled and how he wanted to free the rest.  Police went to the farmhouse and discovered a hidden staircase behind a cupboard in the living room that led down to a secret basement where a reportedly bedridden man of 58 and a family with young adults aged 18 to 25 where holed up.  The elder man was arrested.  Social workers have a LOT of work to do.

A Spanish matador is in a serious condition after being gored in the groin by a bull he was trying to kill in Madrid's Las Ventas bull ring.  Gonzalo Cabellero had stabbed the Bull with a dagger, forcing it to act in self-defense and ram one of its big, sharp horns right where the good lord split the 27-year old bullfighter.  All this happened in view of Cabellero's girlfriend Victoria Federica - fifth in line to the Spanish throne.  The bull ruptured the man's femoral artery and left two 25-to-30 centimeter-deep wounds for doctors to close in emergency surgery.

The Mexican organized crime gang "Jalisco New Generation Cartel" (CJNG) is believed to have murdered 14 police officers in a convoy ambush El Aguaje, Michoacan state, where the gang is battling an offshoot of the Knights Templar cartel called "Los Viagras" ("the boner pills"?  really?) for control of the markets in methamphetamines, limes, and avocados.  But it could also have been a revenge attack, because police killed the CJNG's leader in a battle a week ago.
