Don't worry kids, the photos of the Shmoo-shaped rock will get better and more incredibly detailed in the coming days.  Ultima Thule lies on the outside of the Keiper Belt, a ring of rocks and ice including former planet Pluto that are rotating around the sun beyond the eight real planets.  Sorry Pluto, you had your chance.  Although the Voyager spacecrafts have gone further - they're now in deep space beyond our solar system and still sending back data - Ultima Thule is the furthest object ever directly explored by humans.

Oh, the best part?  Apparently, Queen lead guitarist Brian May - who actually is a rocket scientist with a PhD - has something to do with the mission to Ultima Thule.
