South African President Jacob Zuma should "be sacked", according to the Nelson Mandela Foundation, declaring he had "failed the test" of leadership and South Africa needs to bust those who are "looting" state resources. It's an uncomfortable situation for Zuma, An African National Congress (ANC) pol who has in the past tried to invoke the imprimatur of the founder of modern South Africa. Zuma had to pay back millions of dollars after using state funds to renovate his personal compound, and is dogged by allegations of corruptions due to his connections to a wealthy family in a pay-to-play scandal.
Police in Morocco arrested eleven people following the death of a fish monger who was crushed in a garbage truck, a tragedy that sparked the country's largest street protests in decades. Mouhcine Fikri was trying to recover 500 kilos of swordfish that was confiscated and for some reason dumped by police. Some are comparing the protests to those that followed the death of a Tunisian fruit vendor in 2010 that proved to be the catalyst for the "Arab Spring". The eleven are charged with involuntary murder in the Fikri case, which the government hopes will sate public anger in a country with high unemployment and poverty rates and a place where many feel that state authorities often abuse their powers.
Iraqi troops have entered Mosul for the first time since the so-called Islamic State took it over two years ago. They're facing fierce resistance from the IS fighters, who Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi says must "surrender or die".

In a preview of Trump's America, police in Wisconsin are looking for the white male who fatally beat a Saudi Arabian business administration student outside a pizza place near the University of Wisconsin-Stout. 24-year old Hussain Saeed Alnahdi was found unconscious on Friday and died in hospital on Monday. Hate crimes have skyrocketed during the time of Trump's presidential campaign, which carries all of the scapegoating tactics of old school fascism.
Venezuela released five opposition political figures from jail after the Vatican mediated talks between the government and the opposition, which was threatening to walk out unless the government shows tangible "signs of goodwill". The five were jailed for offenses ranging from the serious "carrying an explosive device" to the extremely esoteric and intangible "harming armed forces' morale". The conservative opposition wants to end the Socialist President Nicolas Maduro's term early, despite him winning the friggin election.
Thailand's Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn will be confirmed as king on 1 December, instead of next year as had been earlier discussed. His father King Bhumibol Adulyadej died last month at age 88. The new king's first actions are expected to be an endorsement of a new constitution drawn up by the military junta that kicked out the country's Democratically-elected leadership.
The woman at the center of South Korea's current political scandal returned from Germany and was promptly detained by authorities. Prosecutors want to know if President Park Geun-hye's best buddy Choi Soon-il was given classified information and wrongly benefited from non-profit religious foundations. Police have raided the offices of eight banks after paying similar visits to several of President Park's former aides.
Beijing revealed its new generation stealth fighter jet, the J-20, at Airshow China in Zhuhai. Analysts note that it looks a lot like the US F-22 and F-35; Australia is contracted to buy 72 F-35a jets. They also note that on paper, the Chinese J-20 has a longer range, more internal fuel capacity, and larger internal weapons capability than the US jets. But China did not reveal much else the plane; it made only one pass and did not open its weapons bay. It also remains to be seen if China can have the thing operational by the target date in 2018.
