Police in Minnesota removed a make-shift memorial to Australian woman Justine Damond, one that had been erected by a racist hate group.  Ms. Damond was shot and killed by a Minneapolis police officer of Somali origin.  No charges have been brought against Mohammed Noor, and a prosecutors recently apologized after being caught on a recording complaining of police dragging their feet on the internal investigation.  The hate group Identity Europa, which sprang up as one of the alt-right supporters of Donald Trump, claimed responsibility for the improvised shrine that attempted to hijack the memory of former Sydneysider Damond for its own twisted purposes.  Cops and the incoming mayor both refused to allow Ms. Damond's memory to be used as a banner for racists:  "Hate has no place in Minneapolis.  Period," said mayor-elect Jacob Frey.

An Australian woman could be sentenced to death in a Malaysian court today.  54-year old Maria Exposto was convicted for carrying a kilo and a half of crystal methamphetamine at Kuala Lumpur international airport in 2014.  Malaysia has a mandatory death penalty for drug trafficking, but the Sydney woman said she was tricked into committing the crime by a man she had met online.

A British woman was sentenced to three years in prison in Egypt after getting caught carrying 300 pills of the pain-killer Tramadol.  Prosecutors said she admitted to carrying the pills to her boyfriend at a Red Sea resort for his "back pain".  Tramadol is legal on prescription in the UK, but banned in Egypt.

The Kremlin is now threatening opposition leader Alexei Navalny, after he called for a "strike by voters" in reaction to authorities officially barring him from running in the March presidential election.  Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, "The calls for a boycott will require scrupulous study to see whether or not they comply with the law."  This move guarantees President Vladimir Putin a clear run to reelection without a serious challenger. Navalny was cut off from running because of a corruption conviction that he and his Russian and international supporters say was politically-motivated.

The US is throwing a snit, cutting its United Nations budget by US$285 Million after being dealt a humiliating loss on Donald Trump's declaration recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.  "We will no longer let the generosity of the American people be taken advantage of or remain unchecked," said an angry US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley in a statement.  Only Guatemala has declared that it would relocate its embassy to Jerusalem, following Trump.  Practically every other nation on earth including all of the rest of the big powers believe the status of Jerusalem should be determined by negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians, who also plan to locate their capital there.

Peru's former dictator Alberto Fujimori is thanking conservative President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski for granting him a pardon on health grounds.  Fujimori had been serving a 25 year prison term for human rights abuses, and doctors recently said the 79-year old had a progressive, incurable illness.  "I'm aware that the results produced by my government were well received by some," Fujimori said on social media, "But I recognize that I have let down others.  Those I ask for forgiveness from the bottom of my heart."  His despicable and bloody rule from 1990 - 2000 saw human rights abuses in fighting Left-wing insurgencies, death squads against opponents, and the forced or coerced sterilizations of 215,000 indigenous women - for these and other reasons, protests against the pardon have turned violent.  Critics allege the pardon was bought and paid for by Fujimori's son in congress voting against impeachment against Kuczynski last week.
