Let's just start with the baby animals:  Two incredibly rare Sika Deer babies made their public debut at Vienna, Austria's Schonbrunn Zoo.  Meanwhile at Berlin Zoo, the new baby Polar Bear cub gets a name:  Hertha, after the local football team.

US Prime Minister Theresa May apparently sees the depth of the hole her country has dug itself, and will ask the European Union for another delay to the Brexit.  Ms. May will also ask Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn to come to the table and negotiate a compromise deal to extract the UK from the European Union.  Some reports indicate that May didn't approach Mr. Corbyn prior to her public announcement.  This comes after yesterday's debacle in Commons in which MPs once again voted down all alternative Brexit plans and rejected a plan to stop the Brexit if no deal is reached.

French President Emmanuel Macron signaled that Europe might be open to Brexit ideas other than the plan that was hammered out by the EU and Theresa May.  But, meeting in Paris with Irish Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, Mr. Macron insisted that the UK must come up with an alternative that is palatable to Europe, and Europe would not be "held hostage" by the UK's political gridlock.  Other ideas might include a simple customs union, or giving the UK time to hold another referendum or even call elections.  The Brexit is currently scheduled to take place a week from Friday, although who knows what'll happen later today.

Algeria's President Abdelaziz Bouteflika has resigned after weeks of mass protests.  Aging, ailing, and reportedly not terribly communicative years after a major stroke, Mr. Bouteflika had been in power for more than two decades.  But his recent, aborted plan to run for reelection was met with strong opposition from the street, as people decried the crappy economy.  Protesters wouldn't wait 25 more days until the end of his term, and the military chief was ready to declare the 82-year-old unfit to lead - so, he's out.

Iran is blaming US economic sanctions for hampering aid to flooded areas.  At least 45 people have died in the past two weeks after heavy rains, with flooding affecting at least 23 of the country's 31 provinces.  "This isn't just economic warfare; it's economic terrorism," declared Foreign Minister Javad Zarif.  Because of the sanctions, Iran can't buy enough helicopters to enact rescues in flooded areas.  Donald Trump restored US economic sanctions on Iran after he pulled out of the Iran Nuclear Deal, to which Tehran was adhering.

Former Malaysian prime minister Najib Razak is scheduled to stand trial today for his alleged role in the multi-billion looting of the state investment 1MDB.  Billions of dollars disappeared from the fund while gobs of money appeared in Najib's personal accounts.  Investigators recovered millions of dollars of luxury goods from Najib's home.  He's denying the charges.

Venezuela's Supreme Court asked the constituent assembly to revoke the legislative immunity of opposition leader and self-declared "president" Juan Guaido.  If it does, this would open Guaido to being prosecuted for defying the Court's order to him to refrain from international travel.  Guaido left the country to confer with his US backers a few weeks ago.  The Supreme Court has already banned him from holding office for a period of 15 years and arrested his right-hand man on terrorism charges.

Uruguay's President Tabare Vazquez sacked the defence minister, his deputy and the army chief for allegedly covering up human rights abuses committed during military rule.  Specifically, a key player in the murders, torture, and general repression committed by the US-backed fascist junta from from 1973 - 1985,  Jose Gavazzo, admitted during a military tribunal last year that he dumped the body of a prominent Leftist, Roberto Gomensoro, into a river.  But the confession didn't get out until Uruguayan newspaper El Observador revealed details.  Gavazzo is already in prison because of his role in the crimes against humanity.
