Good Morning Australia!! - Refugee boat turn-backs come under fire - Merkel pushes Putin to investigate Chechnya's anti-LGBT violence - Hillary returns with a barb for Trump - And more in your CareerSpot Global News Briefs:

Australian and European policies of intercepting and turning back refugee boats neither comply with international law nor deter future refugees.  The new report from the University of New South Wales’s Kaldor Centre for International Refugee Law (.pdf link) argues the policies "neglect human rights and jeopardize the principle of non-refoulement, which prohibits states from sending people to any country where they face a risk of persecution, ill-treatment or other serious harm".  Last month, Immigration Minister Peter Dutton claimed that Australia brought maritime people smuggling to a standstill by "intercepting and returning 30 boats carrying more than 765 asylum seekers".  It has been proven that Vietnamese Asylum seekers returned by Australia have been jailed and persecuted despite promises of fair treatment by Vietnamese authorities.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel is pressing Russian President Vladimir Putin to investigate reports of the torture and persecution of gay men in Chechnya.  Merkel held a joint news conference with Putin in his Black Sea resort of Sochi, saying she had received "negative reports on the way that homosexuals area dealt with, particularly in Chechnya".  Human Rights groups and reporters have confirmed police have rounded up and detained a hundred or more gay men in a black site outside of Grozny, with at least three killed and the rest beaten and tortured.  Chechen authorities deny it, going as far as to deny the existence of LGBT people in the heavily Muslim southern Russian republic.

Hillary Clinton resurfaced in a lengthy interview broadcast live on CNN as most Americans sat down to lunch.  The former Democratic presidential candidate takes "personal responsibility" for her loss to orange clown and fascist dumb-ass Donald Trump in last year's election.  "I was the candidate, I was the person who was on the ballot. I am very aware of the challenges, the problems, the shortfalls that we had."  But she also made clear that she places ample blame on FBI director James Comey who announced he was reopening the bogus and fruitless investigation into her email server (funny how no one talks about that now, eh?) just days before the election, noting that "if the election had been on October 27, I would be your president".  Instead, the US has an incompetent, possibly illiterate, self-centered, and malevolent blowhard in the oval office.  Hillary also stuck a needle in the moron:  "Remember, I did win more than 3 million votes than my opponent," she said.

The US FBI is admitting that one of its translators secretly went to Syria to marry a recruiter for the so-called Islamic State.  Czech-born Daniela Greene claimed she was visiting her parents in Germany in 2014 - but she lied to the Bureau and diverted to Turkey to cross into Syria to marry the man she was supposed to have been investigating, German-born rapper turned terrorist Denis Cuspert.  After a few weeks of living under IS rules, she realized her idiotic mistake and returned to the West to serve two years in prison.

Rights groups are demanding an investigation after Brazilian ranchers allegedly used machetes in a gruesome attack on an Amazon indigenous group.  No one was killed, but thirteen are in hospital including one man who lost at least one arm and possibly a leg.  The ranchers want to clear out the rainforest and use the Gamela tribal land for cattle.  The Gamela have been fighting against powerful and corrupt local politicians and wealthy landowners for many years.

A group of 13 prominent Nigerians is asking President Muhammadu Buhari to take medical leave and hand the keys over to his vice president.  Buhari returned from seven weeks of medical leave earlier this year during which time he was in the UK for unspecified treatment that reportedly include a blood transfusion.  Since returning to the job, he has been absent at meetings and Muslim Friday prayers.  The group, including the local head of Transparency International, says Mr. Buhari should "heed the advice of his personal physicians by taking a rest to attend to his health without any further delay".  The government says the president's health is a personal matter and the public has been properly informed.

French far-right presidential candidate Marine Le Pen has been caught plagiarizing, with days to go until Sunday's final round of the election.  Several sections of her speech on Monday repeat almost entire passages from an address by defeated conservative Francoise Fillon from 15 April.  The fascist and racist Front National party claims that Le Pen was merely giving a "nod" to Fillon, which would usually come with attribution had an ethical person done it.  Le Pen still trails centrist front-runner Emmanuel Macron in the polls.
