Good (?) Morning Australia! - North Korea has reportedly shrunk a nuclear warhead to fit onto a missile - Country legend Glen Campbell has died - Zuma survives again - And more in your CareerSpot Global News Briefs:

North Korea's nuclear weapons program has taken a troubling step - their scientists have a miniaturized nuclear warhead so it can fit inside its missiles which have proven to capable of intercontinental flight.  The Washington Post reports a confidential US Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) assessment reads in part, "The IC (intelligence community) assesses North Korea has produced nuclear weapons for ballistic missile delivery, to include delivery by ICBM-class missiles."  Japan's Defense Ministry has reached a similar conclusion.  A recent assessment concludes North Korea might have as many as 60 nuclear weapons, although other intelligence reports believes that's high.

After this news broke in the US, and coming off some other ridiculousness detailed below, Donald Trump blasted the Kim regime in Pyongyang:  "North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States," Trump said to reporters, "They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen."  North Korea stepped up its rhetoric against the US after the UN Security Council approved more economic sanctions that could wipe out a third of Pyongyang's export income.

Unfortunately, Trump's full hypocrisy was on display a little earlier when he tweeted a link to a Fox News story containing leaked, classified information - despite his constantly railing against leaks and advising his (shrinking) base to ignore stories with anonymous sourcing.  The story claimed US satellites detected North Korea moving anti-ship cruise missiles to a patrol boat.  Trump's own UN Ambassador Nikki Haley told the conservative news network that she "can't talk about anything that's classified".  This comes just days after Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced plans to combat leaks that some fear will lead to the jailing of journalists.

Later, while the new global security crisis was brewing, Trump took to twitter to whinge about his poll numbers.  A new CNN poll showed the orange clown's approval rating underwater at 38 percent, the lowest number for any president after 200 days in office.  The number of Americans who strongly disapprove of Trump’s performance compared with those who strongly approve is almost 2-to-1.  Trying to change the subject, the moron claimed the New York Times and Washington Post were "reluctant to cover the Clinton/Lynch secret meeting" in a private airplane in 2016, the new favorite right-wing conspiracy theory which wasn't a secret, was thoroughly covered in the news media, and produced absolutely nothing of interest.

ANYWAY..

Foul-mouthed Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte brushed aside human rights concerns over his chaotic drug war after a meeting with UN Secretary of State Rex Tillerson at the ASEAN summit:  "Human rights, son of a bitch.  Policemen and soldiers have died on me," he told reporters at a press conference.  "Human rights - you go there and you might have a bomb dropped on your head."  Thousands have died in Duterte's drug war, and since almost all of them were killed without a trial there's no way to know if the victims were in any way involved with the drug trade.  Despite this, the US is attempting to assist the Philippines with its Islamic State problem on the southern Island of Mindanao by providing drone and other military hardware.

South African President Jacob Zuma yet again survived a no confidence vote.  Opposition parties had hoped the secret ballot would encourage disgruntled legislators with the ruling African National Congress (ANC) party to vote against Zuma; some did step up, but not enough to end the tenure of a leader blamed for widespread corruption and incompetence.

Profoundly troubled singer Sinead O'Connor issued another cry for help.  Living alone in a motel in New Jersey, she uploaded a tearful video to Facebook alleging her family in Ireland had abandoned her and says she is suicidal.  "My entire life is revolving around not dying, and that's not living," Sinead said, "And I'm not going to die, but still, this is no way for people to be living."  If you are feeling alone or depressed and are considering suicide, contact Lifeline Australia on its hotline 13 11 14 or website https://www.lifeline.org.au/

Country music star Glen Campbell is dead at age 81 after a lengthy and very public battle with Alzheimer's Disease.  Self-taught, he went from an impoverished childhood in Arkansas to incredible success, selling 45 million records - especially the singles, "Wichita Lineman", "Southern Nights", "Galveston", and of course "Rhinestone Cowboy".  These songs ruled the "countrypolitan" sound of the 1970s that learned equally from old timey country music and  the slick, highly produced contemporaneous pop music.  Campbell recorded in Los Angeles, where he worked as a studio musician in the 1960s and played on songs for The Beach Boys, The Monkees, Frank Sinatra and other Rat Pack members, and many others.
