The United Nations COP25 Climate talks in Madrid broke up without a meaningful agreement for nations to do something about global warming.  The final deal acknowledged there was a "significant gap" between countries' pledges to reduce their carbon emissions to limit global warming to 1.5 C Degrees above pre-industrial levels, and government's ability to achieve that reduction.  Papua New Guinea's climate envoy Kevin Conrad said, "90 Percent of the participants have not been involved in this process."  Tuvalu's delegation said that the United States' refusal to compensate other countries for loss and damage "could be considered a crime against humanity".

Meanwhile, Australia burns and the temperature in parts of the Outback could reach 50 C Degrees this week.

Protesters against India's new law giving citizenship preference to non-Muslims from neighboring countries clashed with police in the streets of Delhi.  Cops fired tear gas at the demonstrators, and some set fire to buses and vehicles.  Muslims are a minority in the country, and they say the increasing Hindu nationalism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is pushing them to second-class status.  Since the law was passed last week, six people have died in protests across the north and east of the country where there are larger Muslim populations.  The US, UK, and Canada have issued travel advisories to their citizens going to India.

Although the Impeachment of Donald Trump is a given, actually getting a conviction during the trial portion of the proceeding is not looking likely.  And that's because opinions have broken down on party lines.  House Intelligence Committee chairman Rep. Adam Schiff and Judiciary Committee chair Jerry Nadler are urging Republicans to put the country and constitution before party loyalty and vote for impeachment, with Schiff calling Trump a "clear and present danger" to democracy.  Trump is accused of Abuse of Power for trying to strong-arm Ukraine to do his political dirty work, and with Obstruction of Congress.

Albania arrested nine people in the scandal over shoddily-constructed buildings that collapsed during last month's killer earthquake.  The magnitude 6.5 temblor killed 51 people on 26 November, and 14,000 people were left homeless.

Botswana has yanked the licenses of two big game hunters who killed an elephant that was tagged by scientists for research.  The African nation lifted the ban on hunting earlier this year because of confrontations between the huge animals and humans - but animals wearing research collars were supposed to be protected.  Hunters Michael Lee Potter and Kevin Sharp were also ordered to reimburse the scientists for the destroyed tracking collar.
