Well, Donald Trump finally got a crowd larger than Obama's.  Tens of thousands of people marched through London to protest the visit of Donald Trump, condemning his demonstrated racism, sexism, climate change denial, and the US treatment of the children of asylum-seekers who were taken away from their parents and still not returned to their families.

I'd show you some of the protest signs, but there were a lot of swear words.  Lots.  "C-words", "T-words", in fact, just go through the alphabet and put a "-word" after each letter because it was there.  If there was someone in London who liked Trump, they probably stayed inside during Friday's march through streets that would normally be closed to move a normal US president through the busy town.  Police even put out the word for people to not come to Trafalgar Square, because it was so crowded.  While a crowd estimated by some at 250,000 walked through London, thousands more protested in Manchester, Sheffield, Glasgow, Belfast, and other cities. 

Donald Trump took the rare step of apologizing to his host UK Prime Minister Theresa May for a scathing interview he gave to Rupert Murdoch's The Sun tabloid.  In the interview, audio of which The Sun made pub, Trump blasts May for her "soft Brexit" plan and said there would be no trade deal for the UK if it kept close economic ties with the European Union.  That came out on Thursday afternoon in the UK; by Friday, he was praising Ms. May, denying he criticized her, denying he'd scuttle the trade deal, and calling the interview "fake news".  Even though it was all recorded.

The interview in The Sun might have served to make the protest crowds bigger because of disturbing use of white nationalist code words, saying Europe was "losing its culture" because of immigration.  Ms. May denied it and said immigration made Britain stronger. He also blamed the popular London Mayor Sadiq Khan for crime and terrorism in the British capital, saying that crime was being "brought in".  Khan replied that Trump is "amplifying messages of hate" and "giving credibility to far-right groups".  He added, "What troubles people, including me, is the normalisation of views that we find abhorrent."

Later, Trump and wife Melania met Queen Elizabeth. 

Meanwhile in Washington, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein announced that the US has indicted twelve Russian spies for the "sustained effort" to hack Democrats' emails and computer networks.  All twelve are members of the GRU, a Kremlin military intelligence agency, and all were doing their jobs, according to the indictments.  Russia accused the Justice Department of trying to spoil this weekend summit between Trump and Vladimir Putin, while congressional Democrats and a few Republicans demanded Trump cancel the meeting.  Late in the day, the White House said the summit will go on.

This would be a lead story in an earlier era:  A suicide bomber killed 128 people in an attack at a political rally in Mastung town in southwestern Pakistan.  The so-called Islamic State claimed responsibility. Four more people were killed in another political rally bombing in the northern town of Bannu.  The attacks come ahead of general elections on 25 July.

Conservationists are demanding to know what went wrong after eight endangered black rhinos died while being transported to a new wildlife reserve in Kenya.  The rhinos were given water with a high salt content; the more they drank, the thirstier they became, and it quickly led to fatal salt poisoning.  It's believed there are fewer than 5,500 black rhinos left in the world.

The explosion at an industrial park in China's Sichuan province killed 19 people and injured a dozen more.  The company, Yibin Hengda Technology, makes chemicals for the food and pharmaceutical sectors.
