The Shiite Houthi tribe took over most of northern Yemen last year and drove the president from office last month. But both Islamic State and al Qaeda considers them to be polytheist heretics, meaning the country is likely hurtling towards civil war.

France just approved a law that will greatly expand the use of solar power. Rooftops on new buildings built in commercial zones must either be partially covered in plants or solar panels. Covering roofs reduce the amount of sunlight hitting the top, so less energy is used to cool the building. In winter, so-called Green Roofs act as insulation, keeping maintaining more heat inside. And should developers go with plants, it will retain more rainwater, reduce runoff, and give birds a place to next. All around, a great idea.
Former Hip Hop music mogul Suge Knight collapsed in court as the judge in his murder case set his bail at US$25 Million. Suge doesn’t have that. It’s doubtful he had that much cash back in his heyday. Suge pleaded not guilty to a hit-and-run in February that left one man dead and another hospitalized in Compton, California.
In the largest wrongful-conviction settlement involving a single person in the United States, Juan Rivera, Jr. will get US$20 Million – a million dollars for every year the innocent man spent in prison for the rape and murder of an 11-year-old girl. DNA evidence cleared Rivera and pointed to another suspect. The 42-year old said, “There’s no amount of money they could give me to justify 20 years, but they decided to give me 20 million and I’m happy with that.” Why did Lake County officials offer such an astronomical settlement? They realized that wrong conviction cases that have gone to trial have wound up paying up even more – and one of America’s wealthiest areas couldn’t afford that.
