The Agriculture Department has suspended the export license of Australia's largest largest live sheep exporter.  The public was outraged over photos and video showing dead and heat-stressed sheep leaked from an Emanuel Exports shipment to the Middle East earlier this year, and the government set out to investigate it.  "The laws that regulate the export of livestock include strict requirements to ensure the health and welfare of animals," the Agriculture Department said in a statement, "It is the responsibility of each exporter to ensure it meets those obligations."  Emanuel says it will fully cooperate with the investigation.  The RSPCA's Dr. Jed Goodfellow praised the decision:  "This is another step toward the inevitable end of cruel, long-haul live sheep exports," which he says is an industry-wide problem, not limited to Emanuel Exports.

Italy is blasting tiny Malta for refusing to allow a rescue ship with 200 migrants to dock and let the people plucked the Mediterranean to disembark.  Malta says the rescue was carried out near the Libyan coast, too far away for it to take responsibility.  Italy's new far-right government has been angrily demanding that the rest of the European Union share its burden of African, Middle Eastern, and South Asian immigrants - but it doesn't help Italy's case when xenophobe and flaming arsehole Interior Minister Matteo Salvini demands that Netherlands-flagged rescue boats go all the way around and take the migrants to Amsterdam.

Albania is reportedly open to hosting reception centers for immigrants and asylum seekers trying to get into the neighboring European Union.  The EU can't get any countries in northern Africa, from where the migrant boats launch, to go along with the plan.  Albania sits on the Adriatic Sea between Italy and the Balkans, but would satisfy the demands of conservative EU countries that want migrants to wait outside the continental union while they wait for decisions on asylum.  It would also go a long way to propping up German Chancellor Angela Merkel's coalition which could split over the immigration issue.  Germany's stability has long been seen as the stabilizing force in populism-flecked Europe.

The orange clown Donald Trump muddied up the US immigration issue again, asking Republicans in the US Congress not to do anything about border and immigration policy until after the mid-term elections in November.  That's a complete 180 from two days ago when he demanded Congress solve the border crisis he created in April when he and Attorney General Jeff Sessions ordered federal agents to separate children from their asylum-seeking parents at the southern border with Mexico.

For a second day, there was no word from the administration on how or when the 2,600 children taken from their parents so far would be reunited with their families.  The traumatized children, many of whom don't speak English (and btw some don't even speak Spanish, having come from remote indigenous villages in Central America) are being housed in secretive facilities scattered throughout the US - some as far north as Chicago, Wisconsin, Michigan, and New York.  Local authorities complain they are not being informed by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement service that their cities are being used in Trump's sickening hide and seek game.  Meanwhile, the Pentagon announced the military will prepare to house up to 20,000 unaccompanied migrant children on military bases.

The US television network ABC confirms it is working up a new show about the fictional Connor family, sans its star Roseanne Barr who pretty much ended her showbiz career with a vile, racist tweet a few weeks ago.  The new show has the working title "The Connors" and will star the non-racist cast members John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, and others from the former "Roseanne" show.
