There's cautious hope for the peace deal signed by the leaders of the two Koreas after Kim Jong-un's historic walk south of the border into the Panmunjom peace village.  It calls for an armistice to end the state of war between the countries that will be signed by the end of the year; the complete "denuclearization" of the peninsula; and the eventual unification of the two Koreas.  But there's no time frame for actually achieving these promises, it's unclear how any of it could be accomplished given the vast cultural, political, and economic differences.  Still, nice photo op.

The leaders of the world's most-populous nations had a mini-summit to talk about border tensions and competition in the world marketplace.  Chinese President Xi Jinping greeted Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a museum in the city of Wuhan on Friday, and talks will continue today.  Xi said he hoped the meeting would "usher in a new chapter of China-India relations," as if he would have said anything else.  China resents India's hosting of the exiled Tibetan leader the Dalai Lama, while India is alarmed at China's push for influence in the Indian Ocean region and south Asia.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel went to the White House to reinforce calls from Europe to keep the US in the multi-lateral deal that stopped Iran's nuclear program.  The Iran deal is due for renewal on 12 May, but the orange clown Donald Trump wants to pull out.  Before that is 1 May, when Trump wants to start slapping tariffs on imported steel and aluminum; Ms. Merkel said that Trump still hasn't provided assurances that Germany and Europe would be exempt, which contradicted some earlier reports.

Armenia's acting prime minister cancelled talks with the man who toppled his predecessor, opposition leader Nikol Pashinyan.  It's the second time the unpopular government has done so, and deepens the political crisis in the Caucasus nation following the former leader's snap resignation under pressure from street demonstrations led by Pashinyan - who is demanding fresh elections.  Parliament is to meet on Tuesday to pick a new Prime Minister.

Peru prosecutors are reinstating charges against former dictator Alberto Fujimori, for forcibly sterilizing five women.  More than 300,000 women - mostly indigenous, poor, and from rural areas - were subjected to the procedure under Fujimori's vile rule in the 1990s.  Over 2,000 people are believed to have filed lawsuits against the sterilizations.  Official data states that 18 women died as a result of them.  Fujimori had been jailed for his abuses, and then pardoned by then-President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski earlier this year in an influence-peddling scandal that forced him from office.

Israeli forces killed three more Palestinian demonstrators at the border with Gaza, making it 45 dead and 5,500 injured since the current "Great March of Return" protests began on 30 March.  United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad al-Hussein is condemning what he calls Israel's use of "excessive force" against Palestinian protesters:  "The loss of life is deplorable, and the staggering number of injuries caused by live ammunition only confirms the sense that excessive force has been used against demonstrators - not once, not twice, but repeatedly," Zeid said, insisting that security forces must be held to account for the many deaths and injuries sustained by Palestinians in the past month.

Torn about this one.  Three baby bears were "rescued" from the wilderness in Bulgaria, because supposedly their mother was no where to be found.  And they were taken in by "The Dancing Bear Conservation Park" which puts bears to work dancing in public shows.  Yeah, seems hinky to me, too.  Cute video, though.
