Hello Australia!! - Trump and Putin let it all hang out in Osaka - France's hottest day - A life sentence for a nazi - And more in your CareerSpot Global News Briefs:

As a killer heatwave grips Europe, France registered its highest temperature since record-keeping began: 45.9 C Degrees in Gallargues-le-Montueux, located in southern France.  "It's the first time a temperature in excess of 45 C has ever been recorded in France," said Meteo-France meteorologist Etienne Kapikian.  The World Meteorological Organisation in Geneva said 2019 was now firmly on course to be among the world’s hottest ever years and that 2015-2019 would then become the hottest five-year period on record.  France and Spain are getting the worst of it, but Poland, Germany, and the Czech Republic also set records for this early in the northern hemisphere's summer.  So far, at least seven people have died of heat-related causes.

A US Federal court sentenced nazi scum James Alex Fields, Jr. to life in prison on Civil Rights violations for ramming his car into a crowd of non-violent protesters during the August 2017 Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.  He could get another life sentence in state prison when he is sentenced next month for the murder of Heather Hayer, a local woman who joined the group of unarmed counter-protesters to denounce what was in effect a nazi and racist takeover of the college town.  Donald Trump provoked widespread disgust by ignoring the right-wing violence and claiming that there were "very fine people on both sides" of the demonstration.  Now, one of his very fine voters will likely die in prison.

Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin - and there is no nice way to say this - are pretty much smirking their way through the G20 summit in Osaka, Japan.  At a photo op, the friendly duo were asked about Russian meddling in the US presidential election and if Trump would ask Putin not to interfere with the 2020 contest - Trump sarcastically answered "of course," before turning to Putin and saying, "Don't meddle in the election."  And then they laughed, and joked about "getting rid" of journalists.  In front of the whole world.  Also in Osaka, Putin trolled the world's democracies by declaring that liberalism is "obsolete" and had "outlived its purpose" - and in a flagrant endorsement of racism, said that ideas like multiculturalism were "no longer tenable".

Former US President Jimmy Carter says Donald Trump is an "illegitimate president" who was helped into office by Russian interference in the 2016 election.  At a Human Rights event at his Carter Center in Georgia, Carter said a full investigation "would show that Trump didn't actually win the election in 2016".  Trump actually got fewer votes than did Hillary Clinton in 2016, but because of archaic quirks in the US constitution, he was declared the "winner".

The European Union and South American bloc Mercosur announced they reached a 'historic' agreement on a free-trade treaty.  EU Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker said it was the EU's biggest deal to date and, at a time of trade tensions between the US and China, showed that "we stand for rules-based trade".  The deal aims to cut or remove trade tariffs, making imported products cheaper for consumers while also boosting exports for companies on both sides.

Italy demolished the remaining sections of the Morandi Bridge in Genoa, to make way for new construction.  Huge sections of the bridge collapsed ast AUgust, killing 43 people.
