Authorities in Ireland are confirming that a mass grave containing the bodies of fetuses, babies, and toddlers was indeed found beneath the grounds of a Roman Catholic orphanage in Tuam, County Galway.  This comes from a 2014 investigation and discovery of 800 death certificates for children who died at the Mother and Baby Home, and after official and corporate media attempts to play down the discovery as "exaggerated" and "embellished".  Youth Affairs Minister Katherine Zappone confirmed one of the darkest details, that the remains were deposited "in a series of chambers that may have formed part of sewage treatment works for the Home".

The announcement confirmed fears that had circulated for years that the Mother and Baby Home, run by the Roman Catholic Bon Secours nuns, had a mass grave on its grounds.  Radio carbon dating of the remains place them within the home's years of operations, from its opening in 1925 until its closure in 1961.  The nuns' order had no comment, other than to say it is cooperating with the investigation and that the property had been in the hands of County Galway authorities since 1961.

How about the world's biggest jerk?  The European Parliament opened an investigation of Polish putz MEP Janusz Korwin-Mikke for saying that women should be paid less than men because "they are weaker, they are smaller, they are less intelligent.  They must earn less, that's all".  Korwin-Mikke leads a small (some would say very small, and I think you know what I mean) fringe right-wing party, and he faces being fined, reprimanded, or even suspended from the body.  The 74-year old chunk of crap has previously been in trouble for referring to black people by using the N-word.

A Mexican lawmaker hilariously trolled Donald Trump with a video showing the utter futility of building a wall on parts of the US-Mexican border.  Congressman Braulio Guerra uploaded a twitter video showing him after he climbed to the top of the western edge of the existing wall, sitting on top.  "I was able to scale it, climb it, and sit myself right here," Mr. Guerra said, "It would be simple for me to jump into the United States, which shows that it is unnecessary and totally absurd to build a wall."  La Migra (US immigration cops) was nowhere to be seen on the US side - but then they're probably busy breaking up families and silencing critics.

US Vice President Mike Pence routinely used his personal AOL account (really?  AOL?  really?) for state business on his previous job as governor of the state of Indiana, and that account was hacked.  Which points out the flaming hypocrisy of Pence's persistent criticism of Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server during last year's presidential campaign.  Pence's AOL account (omg really, AOL?  Ah ha ha ha ha ha ha) was hacked for a phishing scam last year - people on his contacts list were sent an email that solicited money by falsely claiming that the governor and his wife were stranded in the Philippines and needed funds.  Pence smugly declared he did nothing illegal.

Arnold Schwarzenegger has quit the TV show The Apprentice, formerly hosted by orange fascist turd Donald Trump who is still an executive producer.  Arnold says ratings are down because of opposition to Trump's policies in the White House.  The former California governor says he'd like to work "on a show that doesn't have this baggage".

The FBI arrested a disgraced former journalist for allegedly making copycat threats against Jewish Community Centers (JCC) in an attempt to frame his ex-girlfriend for the crimes.  However, the eight incidents authorities attribute to 31-year old Juan Thompson are only a sliver of the vast number of threats and anti-Semitic incidents that have gone into overdrive since Donald Trump occupied the White House.  Mr. Thompson has been charged with the threats and cyber-stalking his ex-girlfriend.  he had previously gained notoriety for being fired from the security news website The Intercept over making up sources and entire stories; he was subsequently sacked from a local weekly in Saint Louis for failing to disclose his prior dismissed.

Several people have been injured in a suspected chemical weapons attack as Iraqi troops to to retake the northern city of Mosul, the last major stronghold of the so-called Islamic State.  Five children and two women reported to hospital for treatment.  The Red Cross says it's not clear which faction might have used the banned weapons.

Residents of northeastern Spain were horrified this week upon discovering the Gran Valira River had turned fluorescent emerald green from its source in the independent principality Andorra through Spain's province of Catalonia.  Officials probably should have said something before doing it, but raced to explain that the color was caused by "a harmless, non-toxic and bio-degradable dye that has been used" in the investigation of a gastro outbreak at a water plant last year that sicked thousands of people.  In the void of official information, people flooded social media with photos of the green river and hypotheses of what happened.
