Authorities in Indonesia have charged a Byron Bay, NSW woman with murder in the death of a police officer found bludgeoned on a Bali beach.  45-year old Sara Connor's neighbors and friends back home are shocked at the charges and believe it is out of character for the mother of two.  Connor's British friend, David Taylor who worked as a DJ in the area, had also been charged.  The body of officer Wayan Sudarsa was found on Kuta Beach early Wednesday with 42 wounds to his body that may have been caused by a broken beer bottle.  The investigation will continue this week.

Donald Trump's companies are at least US$650 Million in debt, according to a New York Times investigation.  That's more than twice the amount that the US Republican party presidential candidate listed in public campaign filings.   The paper also found that "a substantial portion of his wealth is tied up in three passive partnerships that owe an additional $2 billion to a string of lenders".  Trump, who tells audiences that his business skills make him qualified to be president, owes money to lenders including one of the largest banks in China - which the Republican candidate accuses of being a US economic foe - and the investment bank Goldman Sachs, which he says influences his Democratic White House rival Hillary Clinton.

Doctors in Syria could not save the older brother of little Omran Daqneesh, the little boy seen bloodied and covered in dust in the back of an ambulance after Russian bombs fell on his home in Aleppo.  Although he looked a fright, Five-year old Omran was treated and released from hospital; but 10-year old Ali Daqneesh had severe internal injuries received in the same bombing raid.  Other members of the Daqneesh family survived the bombing.  UNICEF is calling for urgent action to help more than 100,000 children "trapped in the horror" of Aleppo, ravaged by intense fighting and heavy air raids by Syrian government and Russian planes.

Turkey is signalling a major policy change towards the Syrian Civil War.  While vowing a more active role in ending the Syrian Civil war, Ankara now says it accepts that Bashar Al-Assad is Syria's president - for now, but he cannot be part of a long-term solution to Syria's woes.  Nor can Islamic State, or the Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) which is an ally of the Kurdish YPG rebel group.
