The Mayor of New York City’s gun control policies might have inspired a terrorist attack in the US Mail;  Britain confirms it is holding dozens of Afghans in what critics call a secret detention facility;  And Jon Bon Jovi does something that makes him probably the coolest rock star around.

Tests show two letters mailed to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg were contaminated with the potentially deadly poison Ricin.  Police say the writer threatened Bloomberg, and referred to the Mayor’s strong stance against guns.  Emergency workers who came in contact with the letter “are being examined for minor symptoms of ricin exposure that they experienced on Saturday but which have since abated.”

The British Defense Ministry has confirmed it is holding up to 90 Afghan detainees on a base in Southern Afghanistan.  This, after human rights groups filed objections to the secrecy and potentially unlawful detention.  Lawyers for some of the detainees called the detention center at Camp Bastion a “secret facility,” and raised comparisons with the American prison camp at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, where terrorism suspects have been held for years without charge.

Prosecutors charged the main suspect in the murder of British Soldier Lee Rigby on a London Street.  22-year old Michael Adebowale was the man with the bloody hands captured on video at the seen, ranting and claiming an Islamist motive for the killing.  A second man, Michael Adebolajo, 28, remains under arrest at a London hospital.

An Argentine prosecutor is accusing Iran of setting up a terrorist network to gather intelligence on targets across South America.  Alberto Nisman says bases were being set up to “commit, encourage and sponsor terror attacks” like the bombing at the Jewish Community Center in Buenos Aires that killed 85 people in 1994.  He said the countries targeted included Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Chile, Colombia, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, and Surinam.

Kenyan Parliamentarians are giving themselves a raise, in defiance of Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta’s call for a pay cut to free up funds to fund job creation for the people.  The MPs would make more than A$10,000 per month, making them among the highest paid in the world.  Meanwhile, the average annual salary in Kenya is $1,700 and suffers 40 percent unemployment.

Jon Bon Jovi is waiving his salary and will perform at Madrid’s Vincente Calderon Stadium for free, because of Spain’s economic crisis.  People simply couldn’t afford to go at the full price being charged across the rest of Europe (they’re living on a prayer).  Jon says it’s payback “to the fans of a country I love and treated me so well for 30 years.”

Two men have become the first gay couple to wed in France, just days after President Francois Hollande signed the same-sex marriage bill into law.  Vincent Autin and Bruno Boileau said “oui” in the southern city of Montpellier.
