A jury in Sydney's Downing Centre District Court has found Former Hey Dad! star Robert Hughes guilty of nine out of eleven charges of sexually abusing young girls during the 1980s.

Hughes had pleaded not guilty to the charges that he either sexually or indecently assaulted five girls between 1985 and 1990 – the victims were aged between seven and 15 at the time.  The jury heard sordid details of Hughes holding sleepovers for girls, during which he’d expose himself or sexually assault the victims.  Other crimes took place at Channel Seven studios, according to the prosecution.

The jury had begun its deliberations on Thursday and came back with the verdicts today.  Hughes will be sentenced at a later date.
