Pakistani security forces now say they have restarted the anti-terrorism operation at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, Pakistan, despite earlier claims that the siege was over.  And the Pakistani Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Hours after the government declared that the busy airport had been secured, more gunshots and explosions were heard from the cargo and VIP terminal where the attackers initially struck.  Daylight video of the scene showed columns of thick, black smoke rising from the building, and there are reported that at least one aircraft had been set on fire.

Earlier, the government reported that 23 people were killed:  Ten were gunmen, nine Airport Security Force personnel, one paramilitary Ranger, one police officer, and two civilians.  Several people were injured.  It’s not clear if the resumption of fighting means that more than ten Taliban gunmen were involved.

Jinnah Airport remains locked down and air traffic is being diverted.
