Kenya President Uhuru Kenyatta replaced his security chiefs after a massacre committed by the Somali terrorist group al-Shabaab.  Gunmen singled out and murdered non-Muslims at a mining camp in the northeastern Mandera region near the Somali border.

“Innocent Kenyan lives have been lost, in a most harrowing manner, to these animals,” said President Uhuru Kenyatta, slamming the terrorists.  “This is a war we must win,” he added.  “We will not flinch or relent in the war against terrorism in our country and our region.”

Kenya’s police chief David Kimaiyo resigned, while Interior Minister Joseph Ole Lenku was dismissed.

Al Shabaab took credit for attacking the mining in the predawn hours, rousting the miners from their quarters.  The terrorists demanded the miners recite Islamic creed.  Those who couldn’t were separated from the rest, forced over a hillside, ordered to lie face down in the sand, and shot in the head.

The same method had been used ten days earlier in an attack on a crowded passenger bus that left 28 people dead.
