Gunmen have murdered Afghanistan’s most senior Female police officer on her way to work.  Elsewhere, a roadside bomb killed four girls.  Both attacks occurred in the southern Helmand province.

The children were aged between seven and twelve years old.  They died when the roadside bomb detonated as they collected water from a river for a wedding celebration.

“The Taliban may have planted the bomb to hit local government staff who were at the wedding, but it killed innocent children,” provincial administration spokesman Omar Zwak said.  There’s been no claim of responsibility.

Meanwhile, Afghan Police Lieutenant Islam Bibi was 37 years old and the mother of three.  She received regular death threats from people who did not approve of her career, including her own brother who tried to kill her three times.  She was gunned down by cowards as she rode a motorbike to work.
