Egyptian prosecutors are ordering three detained Al Jazeera journalists to be held for another 15 days for allegedly acting to harm the country’s reputation aboard.  Human Rights groups are blasting the charges, saying Egypt shouldn’t confuse reporting on the Muslim Brotherhood with being a member.

Four Al Jazeera journalists, including Australian Peter Greste, were arrested on Sunday.  The lone Egyptian among them was later released.

But Greste and the other two were detained, and critics say it’s Egypt’s revenge because Al Jazeera’s Qatari owners strongly backed deposed president Mohammed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood. The Interior Ministry accused the journalists of broadcasting “false news” that “damaged national security” from their hotel suites.

Last week, the interim government declared the Muslim Brotherhood to be a terrorist group.

Meanwhile, officials say that Egypt’s presidential election could be held before voting for parliamentary seats; that reverses the order of the military-backed transition plan to return the country to civilian rule.
