Rain interrupted recovery work at the collapsed building in Bangladesh where more than 1,100 died under a pile of falling concrete and iron.  As outrage grows, the government is working on a consolation prize for the 4 million people employed in the country’s garment industry.

“There is no doubt the salaries will be hiked,” said Minister for Textiles Abdul Latif Siddique as he announced the creation of a panel of union representatives and factory owners to raise the minimum wage.

The government also shut several garment factories for safety reasons in recent days.

But workers want more than that:  They’re calling for the Death Penalty for Mohammad Sohel Rana, the owner of the collapsed Rana Plaza complex.  He is accused of forcing people to work in the eight-story Rana Plaza factory building even though cracks started to appear in the walls a day before the collapse on 24 April.  Rana, his father, and several engineers have been arrested and charged with causing deaths by negligence.
