At least one person has been killed in a series of blasts outside a ruling Communist Party office complex in northern China.  It comes a week after ethnic Uighurs from the Muslim northwest plowed through a crowd in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square and set the vehicle ablaze, resulting in five deaths.

The blasts in Taiyuan in Shanxi province appeared to have been caused by homemade bombs, according to China’s state-run media, and confirmed by the local police department’s social media website.  Small metal pellets were found around the blast sites, suggesting bombs were made and used.

Eyewitnesses also told Xinhua they heard “seven loud blasts”, and saw a large amount of smoke at the site.  Others claimed that they saw a minivan exploding, suggesting a car bomb.
