U.S. authorities are charging a man for conspiring with the hacker group “Anonymous” to get revenge on the former employer that fired him.

26-year old Matthew Keys is currently a “Social Media Editor” with the Reuters news agency.

But he was previously employed at a television station in Sacramento, California that is owned by the Tribune Media Group which includes the venerable Chicago Tribune and Los Angeles Times among its holdings.

Feds say Keys contacted Anonymous shortly after being dismissed, and eventually provided a password for entering the Los Angeles newspaper’s website, and congratulating a hacker once the website was hacked.

If convicted, Keys faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.  Reuters says it is also conducting an investigation.
