Federal Police and the Customs and Border Protection Service intercepted more than 180 kilos of “ice” – methamphetamines – with an estimated street value of A$180 Million.  The drugs were packed inside a shipment of Kayaks from China.

Customs officers came across the stash during routine x-ray inspections.  They discovered 19 of the 27 kayaks in the shipping container were stuffed with packages of the white crystalline powder.

Federal police arranged to have the boats sent to a storage facility in Hillsdale.  Four Taiwanese nationals allegedly came to get the drugs, but found themselves under arrest instead.  Cops also raided three other sites including a home in Kensington, where they arrested 32-year old David John Allton.

All five suspects were refused bail and have further court dates in April.  All five face a maximum penalty of life in prison if convicted.
