On the 10th anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq, Dozens of people have been killed in a coordinated series of bomb blasts during the morning rush hour.  The blasts occurred in predominantly Shia areas in and around Baghdad.

At least 48 people are dead.  The car bombs and suicide attacks were targeted at day laborers, markets, restaurants, and bus stops.  At least 150 people are hurt.

Violence in Iraq is down since the peak of the insurgency in 2006 and 2007, but Sunni Muslim insurgents have said they were going to step up attacks.  The Sunnis are linked to al Qaida.

Iraq’s factions are increasingly at odds with Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki losing control of elements of his own Shia community, Sunnis, and Kurds in the north.
