A specially equipped Royal Air Force C17 plane picked up a British Ebola patient from Sierra Leone and flew the man to London’s RAF Northolt.  He’s a volunteer nurse who caught the killer virus while volunteering in the battle against the West African Ebola Outbreak.

UK health officials say the man is “not currently seriously unwell”, and was taken via Britain’s only extreme-isolation ambulance to the Royal Free Hospital in London for treatment.  England’s deputy chief medical officer Professor John Watson said it’s unlikely anyone in the UK will be infected with Ebola from this patient.

“UK hospitals have a proven record of dealing with imported infectious diseases and this patient will be isolated and will receive the best care possible,” he added.

Sierra Leone Health Ministry spokesman Yahya Tunis said the nurse was brave enough to work in one of that country’s Ebola quarantine areas involved in “surveillance, contact tracing and the burial of Ebola victims”.

“His colleagues are very sad over the development as he is considered as a valued member,” Tunis added.
