Sierra Leone recorded 121 deaths from Ebola and scores of new infections in one day, according to the Sierra Leone's Emergency Operations Center.  Officially, Ebola’s death toll in West Africa is 3,439 out of a total of 7,492, with the usual caveat that the numbers are more than likely the result of undercounting.

As people die and health care workers beg for resources, much-needed supplies are locked up for weeks and months on Freetown’s shipping docks.  A container with 100 bags and boxes of hospital linens, 100 cases of protective suits, 80 cases of facemasks, and other items has sat idle since 9 August.  Hundreds have died in Sierra Leone since then.  The problem seems to be a lack of leadership and clear direction at the Emergency Operations Center.  For two months, healthcare workers couldn’t find anyone in charge to order the American donations of medical supplies to ground where they are needed.

Meanwhile, the Liberian man who flew to the US and then became symptomatic is “fighting for his life” according to US health officials.  Yesterday, hospital officials in Dallas, Texas downgraded his condition from serious to critical.  There is no drug or cure Ebola Hemorrhagic Fever, and the experimental drug ZMapp that worked so well in two American aid workers is gone.  Dr. Anthony Fauci of the US Centers for Disease Control says new batches will be ready within two months.
