Popular Egyptian satirist Bassem Youssef is out on bail after being arrested for allegedly insulting Islam and President Muhammed Morsi.  The case is raising concerns about government censorship and press freedoms in Egypt.

Bassem Youssef rose up to prominence in Egypt after the revolution that toppled the previous military dictator.  His show  “El Bernameg” (The Program) has been compared to “The Daily Show” in America, and regularly targets the news and public figures.  Complaints have come mostly from members of the Islamic Brotherhood, President Morsi’s party.

When Youssef arrived at the prosecutor’s office, he wore an oversized academic hat to mock one worn by Morsi when he received an honorary doctorate.  The judge asked him to take it off.  Youssef’s show has compared Morsi to Pharaoh, and called him “Super Morsi" for holding on to executive and legislative powers.
