Regional elections are coming up in India, and the national Election Commission is gearing up to keep the balloting smooth and protect voters and pollworkers from potentially violent disruptions.. by elephants (no, not American Republicans).

The Election Commission has worked out a plan with the Forestry Department to staff bus lines deal with tuskers that might wander out of the bush and into populated areas where folks are voting.

68 polling locations are being set-up in three areas already labeled as highly vulnerable for elephant attacks.

The elephants have no political agenda, but India’s rapid economic development is encroaching more and more into the animals’ habitat.  Elephants have been disrupting elections in the newly settled areas for a few years.  A couple of years ago, a small herd wandered into the city of Mysore and expressed their displeasure (Warning!  Graphic video!).
