The European Union fined Microsoft more than A$716 million for failing to live up to an antitrust agreement.  E.U. regulators have now fined the software giant the equivalent of more than 2.8 Billion Australian dollars over the past decade.

Regulators say the software giant didn’t offer Windows consumers in Europe a choice of Internet browsers as previously agreed.  Microsoft acknowledges a “technical error” and says it will take full responsibility.  The lack of choice went on for more than a year before regulators brought it up.

The case could be a warning for Google, which is negotiating its own antitrust settlement with the E.U. because of its domination of the search engine market.
