At least 50 people are dead after their overcrowded boats capsized off the coast of Myanmar.  He dead are Muslims who were displaced from their homes in another part of the country after anti-Muslim violence last year.

140,000 Rohingya Muslims are living in temporary camps in Rakhine, which is expected to be right in the path of Cyclone Mahasen.  The United Nations called for urgent pre-storm evacuations.

Three boats carrying about a hundred people set out at night and it didn’t take long for them to get in trouble in the rough seas. Only one boat in the convoy had an engine, towing the other two smaller vessels.

Villagers saw some survivors coming ashore and alerted Troops who were protecting the refugee camp.

People are understandably concerned about Cyclone Mahasen, which according to NASA, is north-east of Sri Lanka and expected to strengthen and hit Burma late in the week.
