Not drink nor drugs nor mechanical failure – The Los Angeles County Sheriff says that Hollywood actor Paul Walker, star of the highly popular “Fast & Furious” series of road race movies died because the Porsche he rode in was going too fast.

“Investigators determined the cause of the fatal solo-vehicle collision was unsafe speed for the roadway conditions,” Los Angeles County Sheriff Commander Mike Parker said in a statement.

On 30 November last year, Paul Walker was in the passenger seat of a red Porsche Carrera GT hypercar driven by his friend and business partner Roger Rodas when it left a surface street in an industrial park north of Los Angeles, and crashed into a couple of trees and a light pole going as fast as 129 to 150 kilometers per hour, more than twice the posted speed limit.  Rodas was killed instantly, and Walker would linger only for a few more seconds as fire took what was left of the half-million dollar car.

No drugs or alcohol were involved, according to the final report.  Walker and Rodas were wearing their seatbelts.  The car had been modded to go faster, but there were no mechanical issues.

Walker was on a holiday break from filming the latest installment of his signature franchise “Fast & Furious 7”, in which he played conflicted ex-cop Brian O’Conner and did a lot of his own driving stunts.  Production shut down immediately to give the cast and crew time to mourn, and resumed this month.
