A new report says more Ultrasound tests detected Thyroid abnormalities in more than 44 percent of children examined.  This comes just weeks shy of the two year anniversary of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Disaster will followed the 11 March 2011 earthquake and tsunami.

The results compiled by the Fukushima Prefecture Health Management Survey Planning Committee are as of January of this year.  When compared to an early survey immediately following the triple-meltdown in 2011, it shows the rate of Thyroid abnormalities increasing.

This indicates a potential health crisis growing in Fukushima. The rate of Fukushima children with thyroid nodules equal to and larger than 5.1 millimeters, and any size cysts, has increased.  Some medical reports say pediatric nodules increase the probability of thyroid cancer by 26 to 36 percent.

Japan’s Kyodo News Service is reporting that Doctors operated on ten children with thyroid conditions in Fukushima, with three of the young patients having confirmed cases of thyroid cancer.

After the Chernobyl meltdown in 1986, it took 4 years or longer for health officials to diagnose most cancer cases.
