German police say they’ve broken up a plot by Islamic radicals to assassinate the leader of a far-right political party who taunted Muslims with comics of the prophet Muhammad.

Four men are under arrest and the government is banning three groups associated with the “Salafist Movement” in the Germany.  It’s believed to have about 4,500 members recruited from Muslim immigrants and German converts.

Police in Essen say they found loaded weapons and explosive materials in a car stopped by the home of Markus Beischt, the leader of the far-right NRW party which has been roundly criticized for its extreme policies against immigrants.
