Even in death, UK’s former Prime Minister Baroness Margaret Thatcher is proving to be a divisive figure.  The Union Jack-draped casket holding her body is at Westminster, awaiting Wednesday’s state funeral.

Tory hopes of a Top-level International tribute to Thatcher have been dashed.

The United States is not sending any current senior members of the Obama administration to represent the United States.  Instead, former Secretaries of State George Schultz and James Baker will attend.  They served in the Reagan administration.  Yes, THAT long ago.  Henry Kissinger will also be there, although not in any official capacity.  Most of you reading this weren’t even born when “Henry The K” was Secretary of State.

Former Vice President Dick Cheney is reportedly in London.

France is refusing to send a sitting minister, sending a former justice minister instead.  And German leader Angela Merkel is not going, she is sending her foreign minister instead.

Former Australian PM John Howard will represent Oz.

Argentina won’t even send an ambassador.  Relations have been strained ever since the Falklands War, with Buenos Aires recently making snide comments about the continued British presence on the Islands it calls “Las Malvinas”.

In England, there is no consensus over the £10 Million taxpayer expenditure for Thatcher’s official funeral.  Several opposition MPs have comlained about using public money for an official funeral while cutting programs for people elsewhere.  Many opponents plan to turn their back as the cortege passes through central London.  Scotland Yard is preparing for stronger protests.
