The Greens are accusing the Abbott government of attempting to cover-up an asylum seeker's claims she was raped in detention on Nauru.  According to reports, the victim is an Iranian woman who was allegedly abused multiple times and is now pregnant.

“What it really highlights is just how toxic the environment is inside the Nauru detention centre,” said Senator Sarah Hanson-Young said, accusing Immigration Minister Scott Morrison of a cover-up for failing to respond to requests for more information on the crime.  Morrison claimed the Department of Immigration and Border Protection had already referred these allegations to the Moss Review.

“A woman alleged she's been raped and now she can't even get the appropriate investigation that she would if she was living freely in the Australian community,” Senator Hanson-Young added.

This comes after independent Tasmanian MP Andrew Wilkie put in a request to the International Criminal Court (ICC) at The Hague to investigate the Abbott government for crimes against asylum seekers.  In the application, Wilkie specifically names PM Tony Abbott and Morrison, and the rest of the cabinet.  Wilkie claims the government’s tough immigration policies contravene the Refugee Convention, Convention on the Rights of the Child, and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
