A missile fired from Gaza struck a Kibbutz in southern Israel, sparking the fire that killed a four-year old boy.  Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is vowing that Hamas will “pay a heavy” price for the little boy’s death.  The IDF says that shell was launched from outside a school being used as a shelter for refugees from the fighting.

Earlier, a rocket hit a synagogue in Ashdod, slightly injuring three people.  Before that, an Israeli was wounded more seriously by shrapnel from a rocket fired at in Be’er Sheva.  And another Hamas rocket scored a direct hit on a home in the southern city of Sderot, causing heavy damage.  Israeli officials say more than 80 rockets were fired from Gaza on Friday.

The Israeli Defense Force says it carried about some 30 air strikes on Gaza City, wounding about 40 people.  More than 2,090 Palestinians have been killed in the six-week conflict, mostly civilians.  67 Israelis including three civilians have also been killed.

But the 18 deaths in Gaza on Friday had nothing to do with Israeli missiles.  Hamas announced that it had carried out summary executions of 18 people whom the militant group accused of collaborating with Israel.  Eleven victims were killed in an abandoned police station.  Another seven were lined up and shot outside the al-Umari mosque in central Gaza.  Afterward, children and grim-faced neighbors walked by the fresh blood pools on the ground.

Hamas released a statement suggesting that the 18 executions were related to Israel’s air strike that took out three senior Hamas leaders on Thursday.
