Despite economic sanctions on North Korea and despite Pyongyang being unable to feed its own citizenry, the regime of Kim Jong-Un has been on a spending spree for luxury imported goods, including furs, pets, and high-end cars.

“The products were given as gifts to key figures in North Korean society to ensure their loyalty to the regime,” said South Korean lawmaker Yoong-Sang-Hyun who compiled the report of Pyongyang’s purchases.

Little Kim shelled out more than A$675 Million of his peoples’ money on bling last year, compared with the comparatively austere A$300 Million per year his father’s regime spent.  The recent purchases include more the A$30 Million on booze and around A$9 Million on luxury watches.

Just this month, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization stated that North Korea is one of 34 countries that require external assistance to properly feed their people.

“The value of North Korea’s luxury goods imports last year was enough to buy 1.96 million tons of wheat.  Kim Jong-Un is neglecting his starving people, importing far more luxury goods than his father did to give as gifts to top aides and the elite to boost his weak power base,” said Representative Yoong.
