Two men have been found guilty of murdering British soldier Lee Rigby in London in May.  The case was infamous not just for its gore in broad daylight, but for one the suspects standing at the scene spouting a manifesto while a witness recorded video on a mobile phone camera.

29-year old Michael Adebolajo and 22-year old Michael Adebowale struck Lee Rigby with a car in Woolwich, Southeast London, dragging him for several meters.  Then, they got out and hacked him to death with machetes.

As the verdicts were read, Rigby's stepfather, Ian, wiped away tears and put his arm around the soldier's mother, Lyn, who was sobbing.

“I would like to thank everyone who has helped us to finally get justice for Lee,” said the Fusilier’s wife, Rebecca Rigby.  “I now want to build a future for (their son) Jack and make him proud of his dad like we all are.”

Adebolajo and Adebowale were both born in Britain and raised in Christian homes, but somewhere along the line were radicalized and embraced a militant form of Islam.  As the defendants were taken out of the courtroom, Adebolajo kissed his Koran and raised it in the air.  But Muslim leaders rejected that.

“Muslim communities then, as now, were united in their condemnation of this crime,” said Farooq Murad, secretary general of the Muslim Council of Britain.  “This was a dishonorable act and no cause justifies cold-blooded murder.”
