Malala Yousafzai has attended her first day of classes in the U.K.  She’s the Pakistani schoolgirl who survived being shot in the head by the Taliban because she campaigned for the right of girls to go to school.

The 15 year old is resuming her education at Edgbaston High School for Girls in Birmingham, England.  Malala said it was "the most important day" of her life, and will learn about politics and law.

After suffering such trauma and finding herself immediately in the international spotlight, Edgbaston’s Headmistress Dr. Ruth Weekes said Malala “wants to be a normal teenage girl and to have the support of other girls around.”

If was last October that a Taliban hit team shot Malala in her head and neck as she was returning home on a school bus.  She was flown to England for treatment and progressed quickly.  Doctors implanted a titanium plate in her head as well as a cochlear implant.  She was discharged from the hospital in February.

Although Islamic clerics in Pakistan issued a fatwa against Malala’s attackers, the Taliban is still threatening her life.
