The brave Pakistani girl who survived a Taliban bullet in her head only to become an international champion of girls’ education will be honored with the International Children's Peace Prize next month in The Hague, Netherlands.

Malala Yousafzai was 15 years old when the Pakistani Taliban targeted her for promoting education for girls last year.  She was on a school bus in the Swat Valley jihadist stronghold when a Taliban gunman sprayed the vehicle with an AK47.

Malala was stabilized and flown to Britain for life-saving treatment.  But the attack galvanized her campaign for greater educational opportunities for girls, and in July she delivered an inspirational speech before the United Nations General Assembly.

The International Children's Peace Prize was launched by former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev and the Dutch-based KidsRights Foundation
