After days of reports and denials, it’s now confirmed that Nelson Mandela is out of the hospital and back in his home in an upscale suburb of Johannesburg, where he is under the close supervision of doctors.

A local news report said that Mandela’s family and doctors had decided, “it is now time for Mandela to be moved home to see out his final days.”

The 95-year old Mandela remains in critical condition, and according to President Jacob Zuma’s office, the only official source of information on Mandela’s health.  The Mandela home had already been outfitted with hospital equipment in preparation for his return.

“Nevertheless, his team of doctors are convinced that he will receive the same level of intensive care at his Houghton home that he received in Pretoria,” said a statement from Zuma’s office.

South Africa’s first fully-democratically-elected president was hospitalized for the past three months with a stubborn lung infection.
