The Islamic State (IS) terrorist group released a video that purports to show a young boy known as “Abdallah” executing two prisoners, men identified as “Russian spies” who tried to infiltrate the militant organization in Syria. Russian intelligence didn’t comment on the video, other than to acknowledge it gathers intelligence on IS.
The video is about seven and a half minutes long, and is narrated in Russian. It shows the two men being interrogated. One says he is 38-year old Dzhambulat Mamaev, a Kazakh citizen who was recruited by Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) to get close to an unnamed IS leader. The other says he is Russian, and gives his name as 30-year old Sergei Ashimov. He says the FSB tasked him with killing an unnamed IS fighter.
A bearded militant proclaims a death sentence and directs the long-haired boy, believed to be about 10-years old to kill the Russians. He purportedly fires a gun into the backs of the prisoners’ heads. The same kid appeared in an IS propaganda video last year, saying he was from Kazakhstan and wanted to grow up to kill infidels.
That IS recruits children to do its dirty work is no surprise to Australians. 17-year old Sydney teen Abdullah Elmir famously skipped the country and made his way to Syria to join IS, and appear in its propaganda videos (and was derisively dubbed “the Ginger Jihadi”). Many parents of these runaways are disgusted by this evil.
“The venom spewed by these groups and the violence committed by them.. are completely at odds with our Islamic faith,” says the mother of a suburban Chicago teen who is facing terrorism charges. Mohammed Hamzah Khan was stopped at O’Hare International Airport last year, before he could fly to the Mideast to join IS. On Tuesday, he pleaded not guilty to attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist group, something that could get him 15-years in prison.
Outside the courtroom his mother Zarine Khan, flanked by her husband Shafi, told Islamic State to stop luring impressionable youths via social media.
“We condemn the brainwashing and recruiting of children through the use of social media and the Internet,” she said. And she declared, “Leave our children alone!”
Zarine said the family had to speak out after watching the news about the attacks in Paris last week, which she referred to as “unspeakable acts of horror”.
