This weekend’s hot new bachelor on the block is an 82-year old media mogul with international properties, who loves to entertain the movers and shakers of the world.  And, oh yeah, it bends to the right (his politics).

Rupert Murdoch has filed for divorce from his wife of almost 14 years, Wendy Deng, just a few days shy of their anniversary.  Murdoch's lawyers claim that the “relationship between husband and wife had broken down irretrievably.”

Outsiders looking in are wondering what went wrong.  You may recall back in July 2011, Wendy leapt into action to block an attack by a protester who threw a pie at her husband.  It happened during a select committee hearing at Westminster into the News International phone-hacking scandal.  That earned her the nick name “The Tiger Wife”.

When Murdoch wed Wendy Deng, whom he met on a business trip to China, it was seen as more than Murdoch's latest attempt at traditional family values, but also as a symbol of his commitment to expand his media empire in Asia’s rapidly expanding economic powerhouse.  That never really came about, though.

The couple has two daughters.
