Although there’s little doubt that American photojournalist James Foley is dead at the hands of Islamic State terrorists, the questions of “what happened” and “who did it” are getting murkier.  An analysis of the execution footage conducted by a British newspaper casts doubt on what was presented to the world.

Foley was honored on Sunday at a mass of remembrance in a Roman Catholic Church in his hometown or Rochester, New Hampshire.  The Bishop read aloud from a letter of condolence sent by Pope Francis.

Earlier, The Times of London reported that an unnamed forensic science company believes the shocking video showing Foley’s execution is “staged”, in that Foley might have been killed and beheaded off camera.  A blip in the video’s continuity, as well as a lack of blood as the masked jihadi run a knife along Foley’s neck suggests something is off.  It’s still horrible – but for some reason, Islamic State felt the need for the deception.

That masked militant in the video is reportedly believed to be a former British rapper Abdel-Majed Abdel Bary, a 23-year old ne’er-do-well who performed as “L Jinny” before moving out of his mother’s house in Maida Vale, West London to become a jihadi in Syria.  He gained more attention than he ever did with Hip Hop because of a photo on his social media account earlier this year:  It was a photograph of himself holding up a severed head, and the caption, “Chillin’ with my homie or what's left of him.”
