Indonesia’s Attorney General said he believes that convicted drug smugglers Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran have exhausted all of their appeals before their executions.  But a lawyer for the Australians has one more maneuver to try to fend off the firing squad for at least a week or two.

“There is no further appeal that lies in the administrative court,” said Michael O’Connell.  But he says, “Andrew and Myuran will file an application in the Indonesian Constitutional Court challenging the interpretation of the clemency law and arguing that the president has an obligation to properly and genuinely consider their exceptional rehabilitation.”

O’Connell says the application will be filed this week.

On Monday, Indonesian Attorney General Muhammad Prasetyo said, “This proves that they are simply trying to buy time. We can say they are playing with justice.”  But their legal team, as well as Foreign Minister Julie Bishop, all say every legal avenue must be taken before the executions are allowed to be carried out.
